Mobility 21 Lauds California Legislators for Taking Swift Action on Legislation to Create Transportation Jobs
LOS ANGELES, CA – Mobility 21, the leading Southern California transportation coalition, today applauds the California State Legislature for the passage of AB3x-20, which clarifies how the state’s $2.64 billion in stimulus funds will be used for funding needed transportation investment throughout the state.
This emergency legislation, developed with support from Mobility 21, will distribute more than $1.6 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to regional transportation authorities such as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG), and Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC).
“This is a victory for the Southern California region – delivering jobs and a lasting legacy of investments that will benefit our communities for years to come,” said Marnie O’Brien Primmer, Executive Director, Mobility 21. “As the nation continues to move toward economic recovery, Mobility 21 will continue to advocate stimulus funding for Southern California, which stands ready to deliver projects and create jobs.”
The transportation authorities will use the funds to help with critical infrastructure projects in their respective counties. Projects throughout the region include the I-405 and I-5 from SR 170 to SR 118 in LA, the I-215/Clinton Keith Interchange in Murrietta and the I-10 Palm Drive Interchange in Coachella Valley; the east bound 91 from SR 71 to SR 241 and the I-405/I-605/SR 22 connector in Orange County, and the I-215 widening in San Bernardino.
Other projects will also be funded by municipalities. Up to 10,000 construction industry workers will be needed to see these and other projects receiving ARRA funding through to completion.
Mobility 21 is a five county coalition bringing together business, civic and public sector leaders to advocate for increased investment in southern California’s transportation network. More information on Mobility 21 is available at www.mobility21.com.
